Speech by Thomas Friedman in the New York Times....

"When we were young kids growing up in America , we were told to eat our vegetables at dinner and not leave them.
Mothers said, think of the starving children in India and finish the dinner.'

And now I tell my children:
'Finish your homework. Think of the children in India who would make you starve, if you don't. "

It was the first day of a school in USA and a new Indian student named Chandrasekhar Subramanian entered the fourth grade.

The teacher said, "Let's begin by reviewing some American History. Who said 'Give me Liberty , or give me Death'?"
She saw a sea of blank faces, except for Chandrasekhar, who had his hand up:? ' Patrick Henry, 1775' he said.

'Very good! Who said 'Government of the People, by the People, for the People, shall not perish from the Earth?''
Again, no response except from Chandrasekhar. 'Abraham Lincoln, 1863' said Chandrasekhar.

The teacher snapped at the class, 'Class, you should be ashamed. Chandrasekhar, who is new to our country, knows more about our history than you do.'

She heard a loud whisper: 'F ___ the Indians,'

'Who said that?' she demanded. Chandrasekhar put his hand up. 'General Custer, 1862.'

At that point, a student in the back said, 'I'm gonna puke.'

The teacher glares around and asks 'All right! Now, who said that?' Again, Chandrasekhar says, 'George Bush to the Japanese Prime Minister, 1991.'

Now furious, another student yells, 'Oh yeah? Suck this!'
Chandrasekhar jumps out of his chair waving his hand and shouts to the teacher, 'Bill Clinton, to Monica Lewinsky,1997'

Now with almost mob hysteria someone said 'You little shit. If you say anything else, I'll kill you.' Chandrasekhar frantically yells at the top of his voice, ' Michael Jackson to the child witnesses testifying against him, 2004.'

The teacher fainted. And as the class gathered around the teacher on the floor, someone said, 'Oh shit, we're screwed!' And Chandrasekhar said quietly, 'I think it was Lehmann Brothers, September 4th, 2008'.

You all must have been reading the news about attack on Indians in Australia during May-June 2009. I really surprised to know that the Indians/ Indian students are being continuously attacked, why can't Indians protest against these attackes?

Some Indian media tried to justify the act of Australians by quoting this:
"When in Rome, do as the Romans do." , it may be right to say this but Indian media should also look at the number of cases that have been officially reported by Indians to the Australian police and not sure how many not reported. Indian media is also trying to divert the issue by quoting how Indians in Australia are working part time to make to two ends meet. This no relevance to the attacks on Indians until the Indians are earning money honestly. This is also one of the example that Indians dont support Indians.

Shouldn't the Indian community leaders living in Australia guide the students on how to register protest in Australia. Some media channels have reported that Indian community is asking the students to stop protesting.

But most important question that is still unanswered is what is the safety of Indian Community / Indian students in Australia?

Is Indian government able to register protest with Australian government in a similar way the Australian government registers protest with Indian government if any Australian faces problem in India?

Please feel free to register your views here.
